Never admire someone quietly.. heres why
Good Morning Digital family. Today I want to talk about how to admire people or at least the importance of never admiring people quietly. I actually tweeted about this a few years ago.
This is one of the tenets I try to live by. If I admire something about someone, I let them know. I've noticed that this means the world to people. I think this is because in our attention-deficient culture paying attention is one of the most beautiful acts of kindness. The people you will come across in your life will not forget when you're kind and they will not forget when you're unkind.
It’s one thing to watch someone’s Instagram stories, like their videos or pictures or even read their blog. It’s another thing to let them know why you are watching or reading. It may just be the encouragement they need.
Admiring someone silently is a common occurrence, especially if you are an introverted person like me. You see someone who inspires you, and you feel a sense of awe and respect for them, however, keeping that admiration to yourself can have negative consequences, both for you and the person you admire. I
First and foremost, when you admire someone, it is essential to let them know. It can be in the form of a compliment or a conversation where you express your admiration for their work or achievements. Doing so can be a powerful motivator for the person you admire. They will feel recognized for their efforts, and this recognition can push them to achieve even more. It also shows them that in this hurried world, someone is actually watching. Many people who create content or step out to lead people value that feedback and interaction more than anything else.
Additionally, letting someone know that you admire them can help build a connection between the two of you. They will appreciate your sincerity, and this can lead to opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, or even friendship.
What could the negative consequences be?
On the other hand, not expressing your admiration can have negative consequences. The person you admire may feel undervalued or underappreciated, which can lead to demotivation or even resentment. I once had a conversation with a YouTuber who was totally deflated after months of putting our videos with thousands of views but with no comments, they felt as though their work wasn't resonating with anyone. Despite the thousands of views, I still think one comment of 'thank you' might have done it.
When it comes to people you find inspirational they may be unaware of the impact they have on others, which can be isolating. As the saying goes, "it's lonely at the top," and this can certainly be true for those who have achieved great things. By letting them know that you admire them, you can help alleviate some of that loneliness and create a sense of community around them.
Expressing your admiration can also benefit you personally. By vocalising your admiration, you are affirming your own values and aspirations. You are acknowledging what you find admirable and worthy of praise, which can help you clarify your own goals and motivations. It can also boost your own confidence and self-esteem, as you are showing yourself that you are capable of recognising greatness in others.
Share it with other people
In addition to expressing your admiration for the person you admire, it is also important to share it with others. By sharing your admiration, you are spreading positivity and inspiration to those around you. You never know who else may be inspired by the person you admire or who may need a little motivation to pursue their own goals. By vocalizing your admiration, you are creating a ripple effect of positivity that can benefit many people.
Of course, it is essential to express your admiration in a respectful and appropriate way. You don't want to come across as creepy or obsessive, and you certainly don't want to violate anyone's boundaries or privacy. However, there are many ways to express admiration that are respectful and appropriate. For example, you can write a thoughtful message or email, give a sincere compliment, attend an event or talk where the person you admire is speaking.
Let me end with this, not admiring people quietly is essential for both personal and professional growth. By expressing your admiration, you can motivate and inspire the person you admire, build a connection with them, affirm your own values and aspirations, and spread positivity to others. So, next time you feel admiration for someone, don't keep it to yourself. Speak up and let them know. You may be surprised at the positive impact it can have on both of you.
Have an amazing week
