Showing up even when you don't feel like it
In the pursuit of success and our goals, there's a mantra that often gets overlooked but holds profound significance: showing up, even when you don't feel like it. As ambitious professionals, our journey is riddled with obstacles, setbacks, and moments of doubt. However, it's during these times that our commitment to showing up becomes paramount.
Over the past 7 days, I’ve been very sick. It so happens that over the past 7 days, I had been booked for 5 speaking engagements across 4 cities.
The temptation to cancel and warp myself up my duvet was high however I remembered this phrase that rallied me; half of success is showing up. So coughing and sneezing, I dragged myself across the cities.
The speaking engagements were fine but nowhere near my best. This was one of my fears and reasons I wanted to cancel, I didn't want to bomb or not perform at my best. However, I knew that what I lost in the quality of my speeches, I would gain in the consistency and commitment I was training my body to understand. I knew that I would gain so much by just showing up even if I didn't feel like it. I knew I was training a future version of myself to understand this truth that often changes the game for us.
Showing up
Showing up is a testament to our dedication and resilience. It's easy to be present when everything aligns perfectly, but true growth happens when we push through adversity. Whether it's a challenging project, a daunting meeting, or simply a rough day, choosing to show up demonstrates our unwavering determination to succeed.
There is no getting around it, consistency breeds success. Success isn't just about grand gestures or momentous breakthroughs; it's about the accumulation of small efforts compounded over time. I’ve written about this in the past. By consistently showing up, even when motivation wanes, we establish a rhythm of productivity and progress. Each instance of showing up, no matter how small, contributes to the larger tapestry of our achievements.
Do it for yourself
When we start to live a life where we show up, even when we don’t feel like it, we cultivate trust and reliability with ourselves. Showing up is not solely about external validation; it's also an act of self-care and self-improvement. There are days when the weight of responsibility feels overwhelming, and the temptation to retreat is strong. However, by pushing through these moments and showing up, we reinforce our sense of capability and resilience. Each instance becomes a building block in the construction of our self-confidence and inner strength.
Inevitably, there will be days when showing up feels like an insurmountable challenge. During these times, it's essential to remember our purpose and long-term goals. Visualize the impact of our efforts, both on our professional trajectory and personal growth. Let this vision serve as a guiding light, propelling us forward even when the path seems arduous
The importance of showing up, even when you don't feel like it, cannot be overstated. It is a testament to our dedication, a catalyst for success, and a cornerstone of personal and professional growth.
By embracing this mindset and committing to showing up consistently, we unlock a world of possibilities and propel ourselves towards the fulfilment of our ambitions. So, let us rise to the occasion, regardless of the obstacles in our path, for it is in these moments that our true potential shines brightest.
