I have a short and simple message for you as we enter the second week of the year
Happy new year! With all that's happening around the world, I know that greeting may already feel old and tired and even sound a little hollow. You may even think "Mike hasn't read the room". Whilst many may think of 'happy new year' as a pleasantry, I don't. I mean every single word. Im determined to make this year the best year of my life and I want the same for you.
We know what to expect from headlines this year. Every week it seems something scarier and more anxiety-inducing pushes its way into the news cycle and competes for our attention. In a climate like this, it can be tempting to play small. to retreat, to curl up in a ball at the mercy of the elements.
That would be a bad response.
I want to encourage you this year 2021 to focus on what you can control and not what you cant. It will reduce your stress levels and also ensure you live a life you can be proud of.
Things that are out of my control
What other people do
Things from the past
What other people say
Other peoples choices
How other people feel
The weather
COVID-19
Lockdown Tiers (Unless Boris Johnson is reading this)
Things that are in my control
The amount of effort I put in
My words
How I take care of myself
My actions
My decisions
How I treat others
Whether or not I follow rules
How I handle my feelings
With all that’s happening in news cycles, the back and forths, the changing of rules, lockdown tiers and an every mutating virus; we can Internalise this chaos and begin telling ourselves a narrative that we care not in control. The opposite is true, whilst we may not be able to control science, there is a lot God has given us control over. We should focus on these things instead
This year I want you reading this to commit to personal growth. To commit to turning potential into reality. Every week. I will write to you and I want you to read it. I will be transparent and authentic about my journey and I'm counting on you to be the same. It will be a difficult year. You will need to be agile, adaptable and quick. Your goals will need to be capacious, resilient and robust. With power, precision and integrity we will ensure that 2021 is indeed a happy new year
Amen !
Thank you Mike! Really needed a mindset shift with this.
